How Does Remote Editing Work?

Happy New Year! I invite you to join me in a New Year’s resolution to deliver your documentary in 2016!

I’m opening up my Finish Your Film program to new applicants. Don’t let your story become dated or your issue irrelevant.

The single most effective way to fast-track your film this year is to hire a good editor.

Remote editing is common today; and if you insist on hiring an editor who lives close by, you’ll really limit your options.

Here’s how it works.

First, we’ll schedule a free consultation to find out your needs. Then we’ll introduce you to one of our highly-trained, experienced documentary editors to make sure we find the right fit. A shared sensibility is key. Next, you’ll provide your editor with a mirror copy of your drives.

Finally, we’ll bring the New Doc Editing storytelling skillset and can-do sensibility to your project. When you hire one of our editors, you also receive free story consulting from me.

Throughout the process, your editor will listen closely to your artistic direction, often collaborating with you several times/week. For each cut, your editor will provide Quicktime files for you and I (your story consultant) to review. Then, on three-way conference calls, we’ll pinpoint what’s working and discuss how to solve problem areas.

From Assembly cut to Rough cut to Fine cut to Locked Picture, we’ll translate your vision into a well-told documentary that leaves viewers feeling touched and transformed.

At New Doc Editing, you’ll experience close collaboration no matter where you live.  Our editors are adept at working remotely with directors. Here’s director Chris Carpenter said about working with us:

“As a first time filmmaker, I was seeking an editing team with experience and vision. I was fortunate to find New Doc Editing. My experience was nothing less than wonderful. New Doc Editing is well organized and extremely professional. Karen’s editors have stellar editing skills, are patient, and unbelievably dedicated. I am very proud of the film we created. It would not have been possible without my fantastic editing team.”
