Help Getting Your Film on HBO

I’m proud to announce that my story consulting client Steven Pressman’s documentary will premiere on HBO on Monday, April 8th!

His film “50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus” (masterfully edited by Ken Schneider) is an excellent representative of what I call the “New Documentary Movement”. These solution-oriented films inspire viewers about vexing issues.

In this case, Steven tells the story of a couple who single-handedly decided to rescue children whose lives were endangered by the Holocaust, a powerful embodiment of the idea that “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for”.

Steven benefited from my story consulting and teaching to craft his compelling documentary in two ways. If you need help with your film’s structure, I invite you to do that same.

First, consider a one-on-one story consultation with me. Steven opted for three of my popular Platinum Story Consulting Packages:

Second, Steven took my class “Structuring the Character-Driven Documentary” at the San Francisco Film Society. You can get the online version of that class for free when you buy “The Ultimate Guide to Structuring Your Documentary”:

These affordable online seminars are a terrific way to learn everything I know about documentary storytelling, gleaned from teaching 18 years at the #1-ranked documentary program in America and helping hundreds of documentary filmmakers.

Last year I asked Steven for a testimonial, and he wrote this:

I can’t thank Karen enough for providing such invaluable and insightful advice on how to shape and structure my documentary film. I’m so pleased to be collaborating with her as I move ahead toward the final cut of my film.”

Congratulations, Steven, on your HBO screening and remarkable success!
