Editing Sports, Pageant and Performance Docs
I have an editor available soon who excels in cutting documentaries about sports, concerts, and other dynamic performative feats.
What’s so unique about this style of editing? Adeptly cut, fast-paced sequences bring viewers into visceral, cinematic performances.
Picking the right music for a scene is critical, whether it’s a strip performance with a seductive sound, a wheelchair basketball game with hip hop beats, or a long take of a champion surfer atop a score that soars.
Most importantly, editorial chops can reveal the fascinating human interest behind the spectacle: character. That includes picking the right interview soundbites, verite moments, and archival footage to reveal psychological intrigue.
Back in the day, I used to edit sports highlights for NBC. We used beta-to-beta tape transfers, and surprise: there was no character development! Today with AI cutout functions, for example, sports scenes can be altered more dramatically than simply using slow-motion/speed control. Check out Wondershare Filmora, which bills itself as “the best video editor for sports that is intended not only for newbies but also for experienced filmmakers.”
The risk, of course, is that AI visual gimmicks are no replacement for strong character performance or inner transformation. Get the story arch right. Then, in interviews, elicit beat-by-beat the telling of a particular tango twist or quarterback play.
I don’t give out staff editors’ names or credentials without talking first. Email me if you’re interested in talking with me and my talented staff editor! Learn more about our Editing services here, which come with story consulting.
