Bold Mother Hubbard: The Story and Vision of Barbara Marx Hubbard

Bold Mother Hubbard, a feature-length documentary aimed at theatrical screenings and television broadcast, follows Barbara Marx Hubbard, the world’s leading futurist, on a quest to unite 100 million people during the “birth” of a new humanity on her auspicious 83rd birthday.
Currently in pre-production, the documentary’s narrative backbone will intercut two storylines. First, the film documents Barbara’s heroic efforts during the final 30 days leading up to a massive “Birth 2012” event on Dec. 22, 2012. Her goal is to inspire 100 million participants to celebrate and “gentle” the birth of a new humanity, shifting the violent scenario predicted by doomsdayers at the close of the iconic Mayan calendar.
Intercut with this 30-day contemporary timeline, the film’s second trajectory documents Barbara’s remarkable life, including her out-of-body vision that revealed her purpose to galvanize the human race to its evolutionary potential, her successful 1984 bid for nomination to the U.S. Vice-Presidency, and her spectacular rise to become one of the world’s most sought after futurists and speakers.
Shot in the transparent style of observational filmmaking (cinema verite), Bold Mother Hubbard reveals how this once depressed housewife now walks her transformative talk, inspiring and modeling, especially for women, how purposeful and generative one’s life can be in elder years. Cutting edge animation will evoke the invisible forces and revelations that have shaped Barbara’s remarkable spiritual biography.
The goals of the documentary include:
- Reveal through the life of one woman a vision of an emerging, positive destiny for humanity;
- Reach millions through theatrical screenings, television broadcast and online distribution;
- Inspire new communities to investigate Barbara’s teachings and join in synergistic networks to birth the shift to a new humanity;
Bold Mother Hubbard is directed by Karen Everett, an award-winning filmmaker and story consultant who teaches at the #1-ranked documentary program in the world at UC Berkeley. Bold Mother Hubbard will be released in 2014, adding a gem to the tradition of loving documentary tributes, such as Transcendent Man: The Life and Ideas of Ray Kurzweil and Ram Dass: Fierce Grace.
