A string of top-tier film festivals are approaching: Sundance, Berlin and Tribeca.  Two of the projects we’ve been honored to work on are racing toward the Sundance Film Festival deadline.  In the past few months, I’ve been collaborating with directors and editors to synthesize feedback from those all-important rough cut screenings.

We’ve had many breakthroughs of which I’m very proud!

I’ll be sharing strategies to trouble-shooting and generate structural breakthroughs in a new information product I’m working on for documentary filmmakers who are in or approaching post-production.

Next week I’ll be holed up in a Florida retreat, putting the final touches on this new program.  I would love to hear what questions and structural problems are up for you as you edit or prepare to edit your film.  What are your doc’s biggest problems? What specific storytelling issues would you like addressed?

I’m also looking forward to seeing the new collaborative documentary, “Freakonomics”. To that end, I also wanted to share a website that I heard about today from Doculink (the online help forum for documentary filmmakers). Created by Mandy Rose, the information-rich site is called “Collab Docs” and the tagline is “Where Documentary Meets Web 2.0”.

Be sure to email me at Karen@newdocediting.com with your questions about documentary structure so I can address them in my new program. Stay tuned for more details; I’ll be announcing it soon!
