New Doc Editing is a boutique post-production service that matches clients with highly-trained documentary editors who can bring the NDE storytelling skillset to your project. We work with editors across the country who are well-versed in working remotely with clients.

Organizing Your Documentary’s Footage

Our editors use a standardized bin and sequence naming method for organizing your footage in FCP. (We can also cut in AVID). If you have already created a project and captured and labeled your media, we’ll work with you to organize your project and sequences in the most efficient way possible. All of our projects are cut on Final Cut Pro 6.0 or 7.0 (ask) and may not be compatible with other versions of FCP. Your project media should already be captured as Quicktime files. If you require help capturing or ingesting, you agree to cover the cost of any deck or other equipment rental that the editor may require.

Documentary Stages of Post-Production

Our Post-Production Supervisor will coordinate between you and the editor and will provide an hour of editorial feedback for each week of editing. All of our editing jobs are billed at $65/per hour, or $520/day or $2600/week. Long-form documentary projects will generally be contracted in three separate stages: assembly, rough cut and finecut/locked picture. This ensures that you are happy with each stage before moving to the next.

Once your project is completed, we’ll provide you with full-resolution Quicktime files (along with simple-menu SD DVDs, if requested). We charge for all DVD stock and for outputting, rendering and uploading projects longer than 30 minutes. Each output and upload will cost $100.00. The client is also responsible for all shipping costs incurred on the project.

Referrals for Online Specialists

Please note that we do not provide high-end DVD’s or other media suitable for television broadcast.  All color correction, sound mixing, online editing, graphics or high end FX creation, outputting to tape, closed captioning, resolution of file format issues will happen outside of New Doc Editing. We will be happy to recommend specialists who can help with all of these issues.

Please note that our editors are under contract to not solicit business or contract directly with you for any editing work for a period of five years of the signing of contract.
